Description

A one-day course covering “response only modal analysis” based on unmeasured excitation, for example, natural excitation. The theory behind analysis techniques such as (Enhanced) Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD and EFDD), as well as the time domain technique, Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) will be covered. The techniques will be illustrated with several application examples from Civil Engineering Structures such as building and bridges as well as Mechanical Engineering Structures such as automotive and aerospace structures.

Objectives

  • To give an understanding of Operational Modal Analysis, its possibilities and limitations.
  • To teach how to perform proper data acquisition and validation of the vibration signals used for the subsequent modal analysis.
  • To explain and demonstrate the different techniques for modal analysis based upon vibration response signals only without measurement of the excitation, where the excitation for example could be the natural excitation under operating conditions.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of and experience in vibration analysis, mathematics and physics. Basic knowledge of signal analysis and processing recommended.

Participants

For those who need to understand operational modal analysis and its applications because they are working with, or preparing to work with operational modal analysis applications, or because they specify experiments using this technique. For those who want to make modal analysis on structures where it is not possible to measure the excitation forces. For those who want to make modal analysis on structures in real operation situations.
